Rain

So, I had them turn Brig out today.  It’s pouring rain.  He has a rain coat on, but still.  I may change his blanket and add the neck part, though it’s a tad long.  It’s not muddy yet and it’s warm, so he should be OK, right?  There is no shelter in the pastures.  Well, [...]

Sign, Sealed & Delivered

The bad news is, I didn’t get a butt shot of Brig.  Too many people at the barn.  There would have been questions.  I’ll try again tonight.
The good news is that my lessee signed the paperwork and wrote me a check.  It’s really happenening!  She’ll ride two times per week in November then starting in [...]

Work has been insane, but that’s good, it means we’re actually getting work.  So, as much as I’d like to complain, I really can’t complain.
I did head out early yesterday (4:30) and went to the barn.  I expected the barn to be full of brats so I didn’t bring my riding clothes.  It was quiet [...]

Last week was quite pleasant, barn-wise.  J and I are not speaking much these days so I just did my own thing.  I rode most nights, sometimes just bareback when the arena was too full of teenagers to bother with saddling.  I pulled Brig’s mane, probably a tad shorter than I meant to, but it [...]

As much as I love fall, I hate the extreme temperatures.  Especially when you board at a place that doesn’t change blankets.
I’ve been leaving Brig’s heavier blanket on because it’s so cold at night, but when I see him in the evening, it’s way too hot for that weight of blanket.  I finally bit the [...]

Woman vs. Horse

I’ve called war.
I bought the nicest (read: most expensive) hay I could possibly find for Brig.  It’s 60% alfalfa/40% really good grass hay (orchard?  timothy?  can’t remember) with no dust (he doesn’t even dunk it), no weeds — nothing but nice, fresh, green goodness that cost me $300 per ton during the inexpensive hay time [...]

A Mistake?

It was supposed to rain last night so Brig came in for the evening.
After cleaning his stall and getting his dinner and breakfast ready, I headed down to the pasture to get him.  He stood on the other side of the mud in front of the gate waiting to see if I was coming in [...]

Heartbroken

The potential leasee emailed me and decided she didn’t have the time to half-lease a horse.  Though I was irritated, I could understand because I don’t have time, either.  I could say that I wish she would have thought it through before coming to ride, but apparently I didn’t realistically think horse ownership through before I bought [...]

Saturday

Last week was insane.  I don’t know how I do it.  I do know why I’m so tired come Friday, though.
I woke up each morning at 5AM, worked out, came back home and had breakfast and then got ready for work.  I leave at 7:30AM to catch the train and get to work at 8:30.  Work was [...]

I’m Baaaaaccckkkk!

The week before vacation was a blur between work, the trip, the kids, the horse and everything else.
We left on a Friday afternoon, spent four days at Disneyland and a day at Universal Studios then headed home on Saturday, getting home around 7AM on Saturday.  I slept until noon or so, then got dressed and [...]
